Our story

A journey that began with a leaf

La Sams began with the wish to make something clean, nourishing and distinct enough to give to someone you love. Five years went into turning a grandmother’s grass jelly — and a Mekong Delta childhood — into something that belongs to now.

Not all heritage sits in a museum. Some of it lives in our memory.
  • Fresh leaves, never powder
  • Cooked daily at our central kitchen
  • Worked in a closed room, kept chilled
  • Discarded at closing, never held overnight

Why the leaf matters

Cooling, high in fibre, low in calories

  • Cooling and refreshing

Why the dish took hold in a hot climate.

  • High in soluble fibre

The very thing that gives the jelly its set.

  • Supports digestion

    Lightly filling without sitting heavy.

  • Low in calories

The jelly itself carries almost no sugar.

  • Antioxidant properties

    Long held in traditional use.

  • Helps you unwind

A gentle cup for the evening.

9,8gfibre per 100g of fresh leaf

Research indicates 100g of fresh grass-jelly leaf provides around 9.8g of fibre — close to 40% of the minimum daily requirement.

What the people involved say

It is never too late to begin again with something you truly believe in. It took me five years to turn my grandmother’s grass jelly into a cup young people would actually pick up.

Every morning the central kitchen cooks a new batch and sends it chilled to all four stores. Whatever is left at closing, we discard. That is the one rule I hold hardest.

La Sams served over 1,500 cups across two tournament days without a single one running late. The electrolyte and Pickleball cups suit athletes far better than soft drinks.

I drink the Fresh Milk La Sams almost every morning. Gently sweet, never cloying, and eating the jelly keeps me going until noon.
